Why Amazon, Google, Microsoft, IBM and numerous startups are racing to build quantum computers

Google, IBM, Amazon, Microsoft, Intel and numerous startups are all working on quantum technology. At its annual developer conference in March, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced that the company was opening a quantum research lab in Boston. Quantum computers hold huge potential, with experts saying that they could transform entire sectors including material science, pharmaceutical research and financial services. But these quantum computers aren’t yet able to solve big real-world problems.
